Tilt Angle
This section is dedicated to tilt angle of the Heliospheric Current Sheet (HCS). Data are taken from the Wilcox Solar Observatory. Values are provided for the maximum northern and southern extent of the HCS as well as the average. The classic model L uses a line-of-sight boundary condition at the photosphere and includes a significant polar field correction. A newer, possibly more accurate, model R uses a radial boundary condition at the photosphere, and requires no polar field correction. Data are updated about every month. You can select the date range manually from the dynamic plot or from the line plots menu. You can also select the data-type from the plot legend below. You can download images of the plots by pressing the save button attached to the right-hand side of the plot.
